International Cooperation
Mölndal is Lead Partner in VISP (Vitalizing City Centres through Integrated Spatial Planning), a development project supported by the EU-programme Interreg III B North Sea. The project is running between 2004-2007 and has partners In Norway, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and UK. We are also one of the founders of SERN (Sweden Emilia Romagna Network), a network to support cooperation between municipalities in Sweden and the Emilia Romagna region in Italy.
The cities of Albertslund in Denmark and Borken in Germany are our twin cities with which we have close and deep cooperation. Since 2005 we also have a twin city relation with Canterbury in the United Kingdom through Whitstable Twinning Association. Our work with developing twinning relations made the European commission award us the “Golden Palm of Town Twinning" in 1996. During the Swedish presidency of the Commission in 2001, we where chosen as one of 31 municipalities in Sweden as a good example on how to work with city twinning.
