About the museum

The Museum of Mölndal is a museum of cultural and local history, as well as a meeting place for visitors of all ages. Admission to the museum is free. Our permanent displays and temporary exhibitions focus on artefacts, memories and storytelling.

The museum stands beside fast-flowing rapids in the former industrial area of Kvarnbyn, only fifteen minutes’ walk from the centre of Mölndal and ten minutes’ drive from Gothenburg.

The “Open Storage” section contains more than 10 000 objects representing everyday life in the 20th century. Items are thematically arranged to inspire you to see things from a different perspective. The exhibition “Luxury from Lindome” presents a unique collection of beautiful furniture from the 18th to early 20th centuries.

Look at, touch, smell and try things out – experience the exhibitions using all of your senses!

In the museum shop you will find locally crafted products, books, sweets, toys, and other souvenirs.

Visit the café by the rapids for lunch or a coffee. Take a seat on the bridge overlooking the falls or in “A room with a kitchen”, a reconstruction of a typical home in Kvarnbyn from the early 1900s.
